BME As a professional musician and performer, Keelyn Mitchell has been educating young performers – both in musical theatre and instrumental – for over ten years. Keelyn began her arts training in Central FL, where she performed in her high school’s marching band (tenor saxophone), jazz band (bari saxophone), and wind ensemble (oboe & English horn). She also participated as a member of the theatre troupe, Melbourne Masquerade. She then attended Stetson University as a Music Education student, performing as a member of the Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, and various chamber ensembles (oboe and English horn). Keelyn is the winner of the 2009-2010 Stetson School of Music Concerto Competition. Keelyn earned her BM in Music Education in 2010.

Keelyn has served as an orchestra, guitar, choir, musical theatre, and band director for Orange County Public Schools and Volusia County Public Schools. In 2011, she founded the music program for Ivy Hawn School of the Arts in Volusia County. In addition to serving as a Florida State Certified K-12 Music Educator in the public schools, Keelyn also worked as a Florida state adjudicator both for Florida Thespians (Jr and High School levels) and for Florida’s Music Performance Assessment. She has lead her programs in MPA, community, and Universal Studios performances. In her spare time she loves giving private lessons to woodwind students, as well as working as a woodwind clinician for local schools.

One of Keelyn’s greatest passions is working in the theatre – whether it be as a stage manager, performer, educator, or photographer. Keelyn has worked with such companies as The Athens Theatre (DeLand, FL) and Winter Park Playhouse (Central FL). In 2016, Keelyn served as the Senior House Manager for the off-Broadway production of Pip’s Island (NYC). During her time in NYC, one of Keelyn’s favorite opportunities is photographing and video recording for Broadway performers at NYC venues, like 54 Below, the Laurie Beechman Theatre, and Roundabout Theatre Company (Broadway).

Keelyn is so excited to be joining Harmonia as a teacher and as the Musical Theater Program Coordinator and looks forward to working alongside the staff, students, and parents here!
