Musical Theater Production Assistant / Choreographer
Johnathon O’Neal is a BA Candidate at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is majoring in Hearing and Speech Sciences with a minor in Vocal Performance.
He began singing when he was 3 years old in his local church choir in North Carolina. He began participating in community theater at the Children’s Playhouse of Maryland. He spent 6 seasons there with roles in shows such as The Little Mermaid Jr. (Sebastian), Shrek the Musical (Donkey), A Chorus Line (Al), and Les Miserables (Jean Valjean). He also competed in the Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta, GA with this theater company where they won Oustanding Music and Best Female Lead.
Johnathon also attended the Baltimore School for the Arts , studying voice under Kelly Young for 3 years. He then went on to college to study with Carmen Balthrop. In college, Johnathon has a various number of involvements. He teaches a group fitness class called “Dance Fit.” He also is a choruster at All Souls Memorial Episcopal Church in D.C. Johnathon is a member of many choirs and acapella groups at the Univeristy of Maryland. He is even a part of the ballroom dance team and a hip hop dance group on campus.
Johnathon has choreographed for small performances at Children’s Playhouse of Maryland Summer Camp and New England Music Camp. He loves being able to come up with new ways to present songs accompanied with dances and challenging the kids to do things they never even thought they were capable of doing.
