BM, MM Abby R. Brown is a full lyric soprano and a recent graduate from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University with a Masters of Music in vocal performance. At Peabody, Abby studied voice with mezzo-soprano Marianna Busching and coach Robert Muckenfuss. As an undergraduate at James Madison University where Abby earned her Bachelors of Music degree in vocal performance, she was an active member of the opera and voice departments, and studied voice with Dr. Dorothy Maddison. Past roles she studied and performed with JMU’s Opera Theater Ensemble include: Bastien from Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne, Rosalinde from Die Fledermaus, First Lady as well as Third Spirit from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and Mrs. Gobineau from Menotti’s The Medium. Abby has also sung in opera choruses for Tosca with the Mittelsächsiches Theater in Freiberg, Germany, Cosi fan Tutte and Carmen with JMU Opera Theater Ensemble, as well as Manon in 2010 at the Peabody Institute and The Rake’s Progress in November of 2011 at Baltimore Lyric Opera House. In the fall of 2011 Abby performed the parts of Woman in Crowd in Lance Hulme’s work-in-progress opera A Confederacy of Dunces, and Mrs. Kimball in Jeremy Beck’s one-act opera Review at the College Music Society Conference in Richmond, VA. Most recently, Abby studied the role of Mimi and performed scenes from Puccini’s La Boheme at the Baltimore Lyric Opera House in May of 2012. Abby also debuted the role of Kat in composer Natalie Draper’s opera etude Trio at the Peabody Institute in May of 2012.
